Why are we using the dates of 1996 to present? There is nothing wrong with those dates, but generally a 10 or 20 year time frame is used, not 17 year.

Last 10 years would be:

Creighton 119-61
WSU 112-68
UNI 111-69
SIU 100-80
MoSt 93-87
IlSt 78-102
Drake 77-103
Bradley 75-105
Indiana State 72-108
Evansville 63-117

Considering MSU's worst 2 seasons are in the last 5 years that is really a sad stat for a few schools.

It shows what teams are doing at the present. And for MSU, it's been a magic carpet ride thrown in with a whole lot of nothing.
USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll Conference Breakdown:

MVC: 1
WCC: 1
Atlantic Ten: 1
MWC: 1
Big East: 1

The Big East is Big Time.

Changes a little at least if you're only considering the last 5 seasons:

WSU 62-28
CU 61-29
UNI 59-31
InSt 45-45
IlSt 43-47
MoSt 42-48
Evansville 39-51
Drake 37-53
Bradley 32-58
SIU 30-60

Only three teams are above .500 over the last five seasons ...

Well, if 96-97 to 12-13 is the record for ten teams together, then that is a fair analogy. Creighton had more wins and more tourney appearances during that time then any other Valley team. In that time Creighton has 9 appearances and 4 first round wins and zero second round (game 2) wins. SIU has 6 appearances including two SWEET SIXTEENS. Missouri State has one appearance and one SWEET SIXTEEN. WSU has three appearances, one SWEET SIXTEEN and one FINAL FOUR. UNI has five tournament appearances and one SWEET SIXTEEN. Bradley has one appearance which ended in a SWEET SIXTEEN.

Illinois State has two appearances and one win. Indiana State has three appearances and one win. Evansville and Drake have one appearance resulting in a loss.

That is SIX SWEET SIXTEENS for the conference and one FINAL FOUR.

Creighton's record is 4-9.

The rest of the conference is 19-23. As best I can tell, CU has been stealing bids from the rest of the conference and tanking. We are better off without them. ;)

I know you don't believe half the stuff you post and you do it just to get a rise out of people. I get it. But this is one of your worst risers yet. A lot of jargon and hopeful thinking all mixed together as one rambling post. In addition to our Final Four, WSU also has a Sweet 16 from 7 years ago. Don't forget about that.

People dogged WSU fans for always talking about the past. Well, now you can talk about the present and future where WSU has checkmate.

Smoke and mirrors huh? Keep telling yourself that as you continue to watch us from your seat at home in March.
I reread the WSU portion of my comments and it read a little bit stronger than I meant. I threw out Spinelli and Sadler just as an example. I have no clue who the big candidates would be if and when Gregg leaves. Andy Enfield was the big name last year and until the Atlantic Sun tournament I have to admit that I did not know much about the man. Those two names weren't a slam.

Smoke and mirrors sounds harsher than I would have aimed for as well. I think I am really struggling to articulate what I am really meaning. This is an oversimplification but what essentially I am meaning is that WSU isn't Gonzaga yet where the operation is a well oiled machine. It still could make it but WSU needs another 4-5 years of dominance to get there.

And finally I have been a cool customer on this board. Always absorbing the criticisms and whatnot while not responding in kind. I do take exception to the sitting at home part. What are WSU fans doing? Sitting and watching. Don't think that your fandom is superior to mine simply because you buy a yellow shirt and I buy a maroon one. And your team is better right now. I'd put my fandom up against anyone. We as fans are equals. Nothing more, nothing less.

At this point, Drake has not played a game post-Mark Phelps, so what are you suggesting?
Simply that with the wrong hire they could be in a similar situation with the Drake program of today. Your boys were flying high with Keno, then poof he goes to Providence, you make a bad hire--in hindsight mind you and you aren't at the top anymore.

*My bad, I fouled up the quoting in these last two posts. Out of practice in the offseason apparently.

There's a hell of a big difference between "smoke and mirrors" and "need another 4-5 years of dominance to get to Gonzaga level."

Phelps actually pulled the Drake average up with 7.4 MVC wins per year.

Drake was a one-hit-wonder. They have had some talent and size, but nothing to show for it.
