I think maintaining the contract with CBS is far more important than selling out. Part of why the game is compelling to CBS is the tradtion of Arch Madness. A conference tournament that rotates around and is dominated by one or two schools seems "small-time" to me.

Rotating between two neutral sites seems "small-time"? Explain that one to me. Small time is playing it in the home of a conference school. And CBS isn't in it because of the tradition of Arch Madness. They're in it because the Valley made its case a few years ago for the attention. At the time, we could have played it in Carbondale and the cameras would have been there. They don't care where it's played as long as there's a good environment and there's a product to sale.

Then would you consider the Big 12 Tournament to be small time? I don't really quite get where that came from.

And as Sub said, CBS doesn't give a rat's ass about the "tradition of Arch Madness." They care about one thing and I think it's pretty obvious what that is..

I thought Elgin swung the CBS championship by keeping us in the Brackebuster?

But then we'd have to compete with the Big 10 for coverage, even if they're on different channels...

Instead, we risk being forgotten in all the excitement that is that championship weekend.

Are you suggesting the MVC would get 1) a good tv time slot or 2) exposure on the final weekend, competing head-to-head with the Big East, Big Ten, ACC, SEC, Pac 10, and Big 12?

For me, I'd rather keep a mid-day Sunday time slot on CBS than play the 'what if' game of moving a successful event to a weekend that wouldn't show much benefit, except for a quicker turnaround for the NCAA Tournament and possibly fan attrition.

I don't buy the idea that we're going to get more teams in by playing the last weekend.

Missouri State was still out in 06 and 07, ISU in 08, Creighton in 09 and WSU in 10. None of those teams were going to get in by moving the date.

Besides that, we've had some nice runs in the tournament once our teams are there. I, for one, think the extra week to keep the legs fresh really benefits the teams good enough to advance.

The early tournament helps more than it hurts. In 2005, we were considered out by most, but played not only back onto the bubble but into the field as other bubble teams lost. People remember losses from yesterday or the day before, but when it was a week ago (or more) you tend to get a pass.
